How I treat trauma and PTSD
My therapy style is gentle, experiential and relational.
Just the thought of dealing with your trauma can be overwhelming. The trauma resolution that I offer is gentle and respectful. You are invited to talk at the pace that you are comfortable with, and share only what you are ready to share. If you become overwhelmed, I will gently guide you to ease the feeling.
You will gain practical tools to reduce your triggers and feel calm so you can regain a sense of normalcy when you need it.
You will understand how your thoughts, feelings, actions, and body/physiological responses are connected to each other and to your past experiences.
Through our work together, you will learn how to be at ease with yourself and others. You will feel less alone so that you can go on to discover the joy and happiness that will last.
Trauma treatments have changed greatly in the last decade. We now know more about the relationship between our traumatic experiences and our neurological responses than we ever did. We know PTSD and other responses to trauma have nothing to do with mental weakness. Please come and learn why you are not "crazy" or "not strong enough" for feeling the way you do and how long it's lasting.
My theoretical orientation is integrative and in alignment with the approaches used by the leading PTSD expert, Dr. Bessel van der Kolk. In short, I am a trauma specialist helping people move beyond traumas. I am a relational therapist who values the team work of you and me. I am a somatic therapist helping people to have their mind and body work together as one.
The way I work mainly derives from
CBT and EMDR have been scientifically tested to be effective in treating trauma related issues.
TRM and EMDR are gentle approaches to healing the trauma wounds. You will not be asked to tell the detailed descriptions of your trauma repeatedly or be given extensive homework.
I help my clients to have their mind and body work together as a team by giving them my verbal guidance. My therapeutic process almost never include physical touch. Even when I include physical touch (as in EMDR), it is always with your permission.
